Kilgore College Evacuated after Gas Leak

According to an official with CenterPoint Energy, a construction crew was working when they hit a natural gas line around 9:30 a.m near Kilgore College.

Several buildings on the east side of the Kilgore College campus were evacuated as a precaution.

The official said they were able to shut off the flow of gas to the line just before 11 a.m.

They said they are now in the process of making permanent repairs to the line.

UPDATE: According to a Facebook post from Kilgore College, the “all clear” message has been given on the severed gas line on Highway 259. They said all buildings can reopen and activities can resume.

Several buildings on the east side of the Kilgore College campus have been evacuated due to a gas leak.

About 9:50 a.m. Friday fire department officials notified the college of the gas leak, according to Chris Craddock, Kilgore College Coordinator of Public and Sports Information.

College officials were asked to evacuate all buildings on the east side of the campus near Highway 259, including the administration building and the East Texas Oil Museum.
